the existence of an individual human being

Hi.

Haven’t blogged in a while because life happens, init, and it really is a ‘When I’m feeling it’ slash ‘When I’ve got something to say’ thing.

But, I’m just going through my accounts, doing my monthly admin stuff, which is actually a par to be honest because it takes HOURS out of my day, but it’s a necessary evil equally because I really need to stay on top of the people dem wid their ever changing direct debits.

Anyway I have this Excel document that I try to update monthly with my exact outgoings so as a freelancer I can stay on top of where I am overspending or where I need to take on another job this/ next month to fill a gap in my outgoings. I’ve had this document since 2021 and I’ve noticed some thangggs. Obviously I have noticed them passively over the years, but today I noticed it in a way I want to blog about (and be transparent about). In this England we do not talk about finances enough, we just lay down and let the people dem trample all over us.

In 2021 my must-have outgoings looked like this per month:

Council tax - £116

Life insurance - £34.71

Critical illness cover - £58.27

Gas/ Electric - £65.00

Thames Water - £38.33

Home Insurance - £21.56

Car insurance - £150.00

Wifi - £30.00

It was costing me £483.87 per month for my ‘must have’ bills, the bills you have to have and can’t do anything about. As I update this document in 2025, here’s how it looks

Council tax - £142 (Up by £26 per month)

Life insurance - £34.71 (No change, am still alive though yay)

Critical illness cover - £58.27 (No change, still not critically ill though I pray)

Gas/ Electric - £196.77 (Up by £131.77 per month)

Thames Water - £65 (Up by £26.12 per month)

Home Insurance - £183.91 (Up by 162.35 per month)

Car insurance - £137.59 (this went down because I changed company we give tanks)

Wifi - £55.00 - (Up by £15.00)

It’s costing me an extra £361.24 for the ‘must haves’. And that’s not including the fact that my mortgage went up by £700.00 (criminal) and I added health insurance, and ISA’s for both myself and Lij (Again, must-haves) which total around the £2.5K per month mark.

- My area hasn’t gotten any better, one of my bins are broken, the council said they will send a new one (and didn’t)

- My Gas/ Electricity hasn’t gotten any better (or worse, it’s just the same - but I am paying more)

- My Water did not get any better, I am still filtering water or buying bottled water because I cannot drink distings from these taps.

- My Wifi did not get any better (or worse, it’s just the same but I am paying more)

Now, my salary did not go up by £361.24 (or up at all) and the services being provided for distings did not get any better, so WHERE ON EARTH DO THESE PEOPLE EXPECT US TO FIND THE EXTRA MONIES?!

WHERE?! I AM CONFUSION. IT’S NOT MAKING SENSE. THE MATH IS NOT MATHING.

I am FORTUNATE, so so fortunate that as a DJ I can get club bookings that top me up when needed, but

>>>>>  If I wasn’t a DJ what would I be doing to stay on top of this?

>>>>>  Why should I have to do XYZ amount of extra bookings per month to top me up when THINGS JUST KEEP GOING UP WITHOUT GETTING ANY BETTER.

>>>>>  If I'm already working all of the hours Gods sends, where am I going to find the extra extra hours, for when things go up AGAIN?

I am exchanging my time for extra money, to pay the extra monies to strangers who are not offering me an extra or better service.

ISSSSAAAAA SCAMMMMMMMMMMMMM .

We do not protest enough in this England. We just lie down and accept the MADTING. We’re living simply to work. The concept of ‘Life’.. our existence, has became just ‘to work’.

It’s one mad cycle. How we gonna break the cycle please fam?
